RUSSIA (Archyde.com) – A Russian court on Friday ordered Snap Inc., owner of WhatsApp and photo editing and sharing app Snapchat, to pay a fine, according to a Russian court.
The reason for this is the refusal to store data on Russian users in the country. multiple news agencies reported.
The fine against WhatsApp is 18 million rubles ($301,255). Snap was fined 1 million rubles. WhatsApp was also fined last August for the same reason.
Meta and Snap could not be reached for comment.
A Moscow court in March declared Meta an “extremist organization” but allowed it to use WhatsApp.
