The Russian probe is not yet on the moon, but it should be on its way there in 2022

Berlin China’s rover Yutu-2 circles alone on the far side of the moon. But the loneliness will soon be over. A number of new Earth Companion missions are planned this year, mostly Russian ones. The Roskosmos space agency wants to return to the moon with the Luna 25 probe as early as summer – after almost half a century of Russian absence.

In 1976 Luna 24 landed on the moon, took soil samples and returned with almost 200 grams of rock. Luna 25 is now set to be the first step in an ambitious program that will also include manned flights.
