S&P/TSX Slides as Materials Fall; US stock markets mixed

TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index fell slightly late Friday morning as industrials and materials fell, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.

The S & P / TSX index lost 11.11 points to 20,533.00 points.

In New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Value Index yielded 46.31 points to 34,144.57 points. The S&P 500 index gained 16.73 points to 4343.23 points, while the Nasdaq rose 154.25 points to 13,507.03 points.

The Canadian dollar was trading at 78.28 cents US from 78.67 cents US on Thursday.

The price of crude rose $1.33 to US$87.94 per barrel and the price of natural gas rose 47 cents to US$4.75 per million BTU.

The price of gold was down US$11 to US$1784.00 an ounce and that of copper was down 10 cents to US$4.325 a pound.
