Yaoundé – Morocco has made a giant leap in the Sahara dossier, writes the Cameroonian daily + Emergence +, noting that the recognition by the United States of the Moroccan character of the Sahara is a victory for the diplomacy of the Kingdom.

In this regard, the publication mentions the Ministerial Conference in support of the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty, organized by Morocco and the United States, on January 15, and in which some forty countries participated.

According to the publication, “during the conference, the majority of participants acclaimed Morocco’s autonomy initiative as the sole basis for a just and lasting solution to this regional conflict”, while recalling the proclamation of the United States entitled recognition of the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over the Sahara.

For the Americans, adds the Cameroonian daily, this autonomy is the only solution that can lead to a resolution of this conflict which has lasted for decades, noting that the solution to the conflict is therefore political and via a process of autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty.

At the end of this conference, 20 countries took the decision to open consulates general in the Moroccan cities of Laâyoune and Dakhla, says the media, noting that for these countries, such measures will promote economic and commercial opportunities in region and will enable the long-awaited final political solution to be reached.

Moreover, the newspaper continues, the participants praised the development projects that have been initiated by the Moroccan government in this region in particular within the framework of “the new development model of the southern provinces”.
