San Marino supports the legalization of abortion, repealing a law passed 150 years ago

The citizens of San Marino backed the legalization of abortion in the referendum held this Sunday, rejecting a 150-year-old law that criminalized it, according to the results official broadcast by the RTV of San Marino.

About 77% of voters approved the legalization of abortion in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. It will also be legal beyond that time if the woman’s life is in danger or if her physical or psychological health is at risk due to abnormalities or malformations of the fetus.

Turnout in the referendum was 41%. The European country has 33,000 inhabitants.
