In July 2021, new car sales in Europe fell by almost a quarter compared to the same period last year. In key markets (Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy), the decline in sales amounted to 19 to 35 percent, and the situation is unlikely to improve much in August, because the shortage of chips has not been overcome.
In the top 10 best-selling European models, there are four Volkswagens at once – in addition to the Golf, Polo (fourth place), T-Roc (fifth place) and T-Cross (seventh place) are popular. There are only three models from Asian and American manufacturers in the top ten bestsellers: Ford Puma is in ninth place, Hyundai Tucson is in sixth place, and Toyota Yaris has bronze.
In the segment of electric vehicles, the situation is different, but Volkswagen is again ahead – ID.3 is the absolute leader (5433 units were sold in a month), behind Renault Zoe (3976 units) and Kia Niro EV (3953 units).
