Sanju Samson, Prithvi Shah and Ishan Kishan were not included in the T20 World Cup squad despite their brilliant performances in recent times. With out-of-form Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik receiving criticism for playing in the tournament, fans point out that the young players were spared for the survival of others including Rohit.

The young players proved their mettle in the pre-World Cup series, in the West Indies at home and against South Africa. However, when the World Cup team was announced, they were nowhere to be seen. India’s two openers, captain Rohit and KL Rahul, failed in the World Cup. India also suffered a setback in the semi-finals due to lack of runs in the powerplay. Had it not been for Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya who returned to form on time, India would have been eliminated without even seeing the semi-finals.
