The Ukrainian army nearly wiped out a Russian battalion trying to cross the Donets River in eastern Ukraine. The US media reports. The unit had 1000 soldiers.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces is at Fighting in the east of the country apparently succeeded in a heavy blow against the Russian army. As US media consistently report, citing satellite images, the Ukrainian military opened fire on Russian soldiers just as they were about to build a pontoon bridge over the Donets River. Two Russian attempts to cross the river in the Luhansk region were stopped within 24 hours.

In addition to the pontoon bridge, according to the US-Portal «Forbes» a Russian army battalion of 1,000 men was largely wiped out. The incident is said to have happened about 25 kilometers from the 20,000-inhabitant town of Lyman.

Around three dozen tanks and other armored vehicles were destroyed in the attack by the Ukrainian army’s 17th tank brigade near Bilohorivka. However, the number of Russian soldiers killed and wounded was unclear. Both “Forbes” and the US broadcaster “CNN” are said to have checked the drone images and videos shared on social media for authenticity.

The Russian ground forces in Donbass are still considered to be slow, Forbes quoted an unnamed US Defense Department official as saying. The inertia of Moscow’s units could also be related to their inability to successfully cross rivers.

In this morning’s report, however, the Ukrainian general staff stated that the enemy had nevertheless managed to get across the river. The military governor of the Luhansk region Serhiy Hajday also admitted: “The situation has deteriorated significantly.” The supply route from the towns of Bakhmut to Lysychansk and Sievjerodonetsk is therefore still acutely endangered together with the Russian advances from the conquered Popasna.
