Scandal in UK: traces of drugs detected in parliament, police called to investigate

Sir Lindsay described ‘very disturbing’ reports of traces of cocaine found in areas of the Palace of Westminster accessible only to people with parliamentary passes.

In a statement, he said he expected to see “full application of the law” in the UK parliament.

In addition, another deputy, suggested the use of sniffer dogs to detect illicit substances.

An article in the Sunday Times reported on drug tests that uncovered traces of cocaine in 11 of the 12 places tested, after reports of drug use by a group of parliamentarians.

The newspaper also indicated that the authorities of the House of Commons had received reports that odors of cannabis could be smelled in common areas.

The article was published as the government is about to launch a new offensive against drug abuse with a 10-year strategy.
