That is to say, Olivan is not completely taking over Sandberg’s original job. In Mark Zuckerberg’s words, “it will be a job that is closer to the traditional COO, so that Javier can focus on internal affairs and operations, and let him do the things he is good at. The company has become more efficient and meticulous in its execution.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, Sandberg took over all business-related matters when he joined Facebook in 2008, allowing Zuckerberg to focus on engineering. In recent years, he has become a spokesperson, responsible for explaining things in disputes, just like when the Cambridge Analytica scandal was exposed in the early years.

However, Sandberg herself has been involved in a scandal of private use. Just before the news of her departure, the Wall Street Journal broke that she had abused her power and demanded to suppress the negative news on the Facebook platform about the then-date Activision CEO Bobby Kotick. Then it was revealed that Meta’s legal team was investigating Sandberg’s alleged use of company resources and employees to promote her personal funds and books.

It’s just that Meta is also going through what Zuckerberg describes as the worst period in its history, with both reducing hiring and implementing measures to clamp down on inefficient engineers. Therefore, the occurrence of executive personnel changes, whether it is good or bad for the future of Meta, cannot be said for the time being.
