Schalke: That’s why Simon Terodde only meets in the 2nd division – Bundesliga

You can rely on two things in German football in recent years: FC Bayern becomes champions! And Simon Terodde (33) is number 1 in the scorers list of the 2nd division.

Now again! He has scored ten goals in eight games. Ten of a total of 13 that his new club Schalke 04 has achieved so far, having scored the 2-0 win in Rostock on his own again. A diving header just above the sward, a dusting – what a real center forward does when he’s good.

In the “Eternal goalscorer list” of the 2nd league, Terodde is just a little bit behind Dieter Schatzschneider, the legend of Hannover 96 with 152 goals. “Schatz” (now 63) has long since come to terms with the fact that he has broken the record: “ It hits the right one. Simon’s character is impeccable, a team player and a goal machine. “

Simon Terodde, born in Bocholt on the Dutch border, is one of the biggest phenomena in the Bundesliga. In his attempts in the first division, he only managed ten goals in 58 games. Why does such a good striker only score in the lower house? What is it missing for the absolute top? Or is he a misunderstood genius?

He shot Stuttgart with 25 goals in 2017, Cologne two years later with 29 high in the first division. But when he got to the top, he was deported from VfB the next winter, and from FC after just one and a half more years.

Terodde, 1.92 meters tall, is not the fastest. No Rastelli on the ball either. He’s an old-school center forward, instinct-type footballer. He knows where to stand. And he knows where the gate is.

One with a “nose for goal”, a “real nine” – two terms that unfortunately went out of fashion after the school of Pep Guardiola (“Tiki-Taka”, “false nine”) prevailed. With every failure of the German national team in recent years, it became increasingly clear how much we miss a real center forward.

Peter Neururer, second division expert and coach of Terodde in Duisburg and Bochum, wants to know why the striker was unable to prevail in the first division: “In the second division, the system is geared towards a real striker like Simon. And it works. After the promotion, the coaches then changed the system. One was standing lower, suddenly it was about switching play. There was a lack of courage to continue to bet on a wedge striker in the lead. It was the system – not Terodde! For me he is still one of the best strikers we have in Germany. “

Last season Terodde played for HSV. And also made 24 goals here. A contract extension was still overslept.

Because the negotiating tactic was: let’s get up, we’ll part. Let’s stay down, let’s move on. Again the lack of courage to bet on Terodde. The old prejudice again! And before that was decided, Schalke grabbed it.

The HSV fans do not understand that to this day. And should Schalke make the promotion with Terodde and should HSV fail again, then sports director Jonas Boldt is under a lot of pressure to explain!

Simon Terodde, the first-class king in the second-class league!
