German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the country’s desire to avoid the escalation of Russia and NATO, despite the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
According to Scholz, on the issue of military assistance to Kyiv, Berlin does not take any unilateral steps and consults with partners. “We are doing everything so that there is no escalation in the direction of a war between Russia and NATO,” he added.
Olaf Scholz said in April that Ukraine still needed military assistance, but that it did not need new types of weapons at the moment. According to the DPA agency, in this way the chancellor once again indirectly denied the Ukrainian side the fighter jets that it wants to receive from the West.
