Search for WWII Soldiers’ Remains in Assam: US Seeks Assistance from State Government

Guwahati – The US has sought the help of the Assam government to find the remains of 1000 soldiers who lost their lives in Assam during the Second World War. The demand was raised during a meeting held by US Consul General in Kolkata Melinda Pavek with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswasharma. The Chief Minister made it clear through Twitter that possible help has been offered.

The United States has conducted 5 missions to search for the remains of missing US soldiers in India during World War II. The search is for the remains of US soldiers who went missing while flying over the Himalayas from bases in India to aid China in its war against Japan. The remains of 2 pilots have been recovered.
