The legacy the Cheney family left America can be seen by driving a little across the country. Especially in rural, conservative areas of the United States, it is common to name road bridges after the men and women from the surrounding villages who died in America’s wars. And the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq that Dick Cheney started as Vice President 20 years ago produced thousands of names to print on signs and put on bridges.

So maybe it’s something like regret – the feeling of having to be on the right side of the story this time so that the family name is not only associated with the wretched “Forever Wars”, the eternal wars in the Near and Far East, but also with a truly patriotic act. In any case, it was just two members of the Cheney family who in the past few days have struggled against the cold coup through which President Donald Trump tried to stay in office despite his electoral defeat.
