WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. Republican Senator Marco Rubio asked the Trump administration on Wednesday to review the national security impact of the proposed sale of its majority stake in Central European Media Group Enterprises (CME) to the Czech conglomerate PPF Group ,
Rubio wrote that the Czech company has been shown to have “China’s representative in the Czech Republic”, adding that telecommunications companies owned PPF with Huawei Technologies Co. [HWT.UL] Develop 5G networks.
The CME group operates in the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia, reaches approximately 97 million people and has some of the most watched news programs in Central and Eastern Europe, said Rubio.
