A serious road accident occurred this Thursday, around 7 p.m., rue Blonde, on the border between the Lille metropolis and Douaisis, between Genech and Nomain, report our colleagues from La Voix du Nord.
A Peugeot 3008 aboard which was a couple in their sixties living in Nomain was driving towards this town. In the other direction, came a group of about ten cyclists, including Belgians, according to France Bleu. For reasons still unexplained, the driver of the 3008 hit five of them.
Huge resources have been committed to help the victims. Two SMUR teams and around twenty firefighters were on site. The SAMU helicopter was called to transport one of the victims in very serious condition.
Five cyclists were hit by the car: three, aged 50, 20 and 17, were seriously injured and two others more lightly. Of the three taken to the CHR, two are between life and death. The one who was transported by helicopter is the youngest. The two slightly injured were taken to Seclin hospital.
The gendarmes of the Douai company will take care of clarifying the circumstances of this accident, in particular by hearing the couple at the origin of the accident.
