Severe thunderstorm watches in effect: see the sectors concerned

And bref :

  • Supercell and spin-off potential are on the radar;
  • The afternoon and evening will be ones to watch closely;
  • Torrential rain, violent gusts and large hailstones are possible.

Saturday is expected to be eventful with scattered thunderstorms. A moderate risk zone is emerging from the Outaouais to the Chaudière-Appalaches region, via Montreal and Quebec. Several of these regions are already under a watch of severe thunderstorms.

We are monitoring the Laurentides and Lanaudière sectors in particular, where there is potential to see supercells forming at the end of the afternoon. A risk of rotation cannot therefore be ruled out for these regions.

Good to know: a supercell is a violent thunderstorm characterized by the presence of an upward movement which enters into rotation. This is likely to produce tornadoes.

A low risk of thunderstorms still extends to the Côte-Nord region.

Strong gusts up to; at 90 km/h are also possible, as well as heavy rain. At the most intense of the disturbances, up to 40 mm of accumulations could pour out. Large hailstones are not impossible either.

Overwhelming humidity

The humidity has pushed felt temperatures to over 30 degrees in recent days. It will go up a notch on Sunday. To conclude the weekend, the day of Sunday will be marked by the presence of interwoven thunderstorms and the formation of isolated cells, due to the entry of a system. During this day, thunderstorms could form in the south, center and northwest. However, the risk will be lower than for the day on Saturday.
