she had planned an attack on Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris

They intended to join the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) in the country, but were able to be arrested. This is the second conviction for terrorism of the thirties, deradicalized since the last facts.

MB was sentenced in March 2018 to four years in prison in Bruges in particular for having disseminated terrorist propaganda and having maintained contacts with the female terrorist cell which had planned an attack against the cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris in September 2016.

The woman was released in March 2019, but continued to evolve in radicalized circles in the months that followed, according to the federal prosecution. She would also have helped two underage girls, one from France and the other from Ghent, to leave for Syria. The latter were arrested in June 2019 in the north of France, at the home of a radicalized Frenchman with whom MB also had close contact.

According to the defense, the 30-year-old has now severed all ties with the extremist milieu and is looking for a job. She therefore pleaded for an acquittal or, if convicted, a sentence of community service.

The federal prosecutor’s office acknowledged that the defendant had evolved since then and that she was no longer radicalized at all.

The court eventually found MB guilty, but took into account the training she has had since the facts and imposed a sentence of 200 hours of community service, which, if not carried out correctly, will be commuted to 24 months imprisonment.
