Short track skater Shim Seok-hee (24, Seoul City Hall) will join the national team.

According to the Korea Ice Skating Federation on the 25th, Shim Suk-hee expressed his intention to join the national team training that day. Accordingly, Shim Suk-hee will join the national team from the 27th.

According to a federation official, Shim Seok-hee’s side expressed his intention to join the group through a document. She said that she will come and join the national team dorm on the 27th and start training in earnest at the Taereung Ice Rink in Seoul on the 28th.

Previously, Shim Seok-hee was suspended from qualifications for two months after it was revealed that she had deliberately collided with Choi Min-jeong and wentssips about Choi Min-jeong and Kim A-rang in the 1000m final at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. Afterwards, she said that Shim Seok-hee’s disciplinary action was excessive and she applied for an injunction to suspend the effect of the disciplinary action against the Korea Ice Skating Federation, but she was rejected.

As a result, Shim Seong-hee, who could not participate in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, was able to join as her suspension was lifted on the 20th. However, he still has an unresolved dispute with his fellow players whom he has criticized.

Shim Suk-hee apologized for the controversy and said, “I’m really sorry to those who have suffered.”

Meanwhile, the short track team, joined by Shim Seok-hee, will enter the Jincheon Athlete’s Village in North Chungcheong Province on the 2nd of next month and prepare for the 2022 International Skating Union (ISU) World Championships to be held in Montreal, Canada from the 18th to the 20th.

Ji-yu Kim, who could not participate in the Beijing Olympics due to an ankle fracture, ultimately gave up on the national team.
