France had, Saturday, May 28, sixteen cases “confirmed” monkeypox virus infection, according to figures reported on Sunday by Public Health France. According to the national public health agency, of these sixteen cases, twelve were reported in Ile-de-France, one in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, two in Occitania and one in Normandy.

A previous report reported of seven cases “proven”, announced on Wednesday the new health minister, Brigitte Bourguignon. A next update of the balance sheet must be carried out on Monday, according to Public Health France.

Mme Bourguignon had indicated that the authorities did not expect a “blaze” of the disease, and that the country had sufficient stocks of vaccines for contact cases. The general directorate of health indicated on Friday to Agence France-Presse that the first two people, considered to have had risky contact with a patient with monkeypox, were vaccinated in Paris, at the Bichat Hospital. The Minister also specified that she was going to discuss, on Monday, with her European counterparts the “strategies that[ils] adopter[ont] » about this disease. “For the moment, the situation is under control, it is under control”did she say.

In the face of cases of monkeypox, in an opinion issued on Tuesday, the High Authority for Health has recommended the vaccination of adults, including health professionals, who have had risky contact with a patient. Monkeypox (monkeypox in English) or simian orthopoxvirus is a disease considered rare, known in humans since 1970. It is caused by a DNA virus.
