After more than ten years with the Stormers, based in Cape Town, Siya Kolisi has signed up with the Durban Sharks franchise. “I would like to thank everyone for this incredible time in my life, which allowed me to grow as a rugby player and as a person,” responded the Springbocks captain.
The 29-year-old third-row did not explain the reasons for his departure. A Stormers source told AFP he was among the players unhappy with recent developments in the struggling Cape Town franchise.
Kolisi had dreams of winning the Currie Cup this year with Western Province – the name the Stormers use in domestic competitions – but they fell short at home to the Sharks in the semi-finals in late January. The Sharks then lost in the final of the championship of the South African provinces against the Blue Bulls.
