Smartphone flagship clash… Galaxy Z 4th generation vs iPhone 14

Samsung Electronics (hereinafter referred to as Samsung) and Apple, the two mountain ranges in the global smartphone industry, will once again clash with new products in the second half of this year. Samsung is expected to release the 4th generation of the foldable phone ‘Galaxy Z’ in August, and Apple is expected to release the ‘iPhone 14’ in September or October of this year, as in previous years.

Samsung will unveil its 4th generation foldable phone Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 through ‘Galaxy Unpacked 2022’ to be held online and offline in the United States on the 10th. It is known that Samsung put a lot of effort into improving the design and performance of the new product thanks to customer response to the previous generation of foldable phone products, the Z Fold and Flip 3.

According to the contents disclosed by global IT tipsters (information leakers), the Galaxy Z Fold is equipped with 4 Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 AP, 12GB LPDDR5 SDRAM memory, 256/512 GB UFS 4.0 standard internal memory, and a wider main display than previous products. It is known that the performance has improved. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is said to be at the level of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 SM8475 AP, 8GB LPDDR5 SDRAM memory, and 256/512 GB UFS 3.1 standard internal memory. In addition, the two products are known to be the first domestic smartphones to support e-SIM linked dual SIM.

Apple’s flagship iPhone 14 is known to have specifications changes such as the latest AP A16 (pro model only), 6GB memory, improved rear camera performance, and the first punch hole design (pro model only). iPhone 13’s entry-level ‘mini’ model disappears instead of general. It is known that performance is divided into four types: PRO, MAX, and PRO MAX. In the case of the iPhone 14 series, mockups were obtained from domestic and foreign IT YouTubers.

Each company’s new products are expected to form a confrontational structure between Samsung, which must maintain the No. 1 position in global smartphone market share, and Apple, which is aiming for the No. According to a survey by market research firm Omdia on the 4th, Samsung ranked first in global smartphone shipments in the second quarter of this year, with a total of 62.2 million units. Apple ranked second with 48.9 million units. In terms of market share, Samsung ranked first with 23% and Apple ranked second with 17%.

Thanks to the unchanging popularity of the iPhone series, which has a large number of enthusiasts around the world, Apple is aiming for the top spot in Samsung’s market share. The iPhone 12, released in October 2020, surpassed 100 million units in worldwide sales within seven months of its release, bringing down Samsung from the No. Since then, Samsung has responded to Apple’s offensive by expanding its mid- to low-end lineup and early launch of flagship models.

In the second half of every year, when Samsung and Apple’s new product launch times overlap, competition between the two brands is being created. As for the key to staying ahead of the competition, experts agree that “overcoming one’s own weaknesses” is the key. Samsung Electronics suffered a lot of trouble for a while due to the forced application of GOS for the flagship model Galaxy S22 and controversy over performance degradation. In the case of Apple, the iPhone 13, which did not stand out from the iPhone 12, became a problem.

Many people are paying attention to the new confrontation between Samsung and Apple, the fiercest and most interesting competition in the global electronics industry.
