– Elon Musk joins Twitter board
Monday, the entrepreneur and billionaire had become the largest shareholder of Twitter, investing in the group.
Elon Musk has joined the board of directors of Twitter, revealed in a tweet the general manager of the social network, Parag Agrawal, the day following the announcement of an acquisition of a stake by the entrepreneur and billionaire in the capital of the group.
According to a document filed with the US market regulator, the SEC, Elon Musk’s renewable term will last until the 2024 general meeting.
“During our conversations with Elon over the past few weeks,” the CEO of the group continued to the blue bird, “it became clear to us that he would bring significant added value to our board of directors.”
“He is both an enthusiast and an intense critic of the network, which is exactly what we need on @Twitter and on the board, to strengthen us for the long term,” wrote Parag Agrawal. “Welcome Elon!”
Improvements in sight
At Twitter since 2011, Parag Agrawal took charge of the group last November, replacing co-founder Jack Dorsey, who resigned.
“I look forward to working with Parag and the Twitter Board to implement meaningful improvements (…) in the months ahead!” tweeted Elon Musk.
By taking a 9.2% stake in the capital, announced on Monday, Elon Musk instantly became Twitter’s largest shareholder.
The document filed with the SEC to announce his entry to the board of directors specifies that the richest man in the world has undertaken not to raise his stake beyond 14.9%.
Before this entry into the capital, he was already an active user of the social network, on which he has 80.5 million subscribers.
Critiques d’Elon Musk
He has repeatedly used his account to poll Internet users regarding his Tesla stock sales or, more recently, to find out if they believe Twitter respects freedom of expression, a question to which a majority had answered “no”. This Tuesday, he also posted a poll asking for the creation of an “edit” button, in connection with the tweets that we write on the platform.
The whimsical entrepreneur has repeatedly criticized the platform in this sense, believing that it went too far in moderating content posted on the social network.
In the first exchanges following the opening of the New York Stock Exchange, the title Twitter jumped 7.60%.
