“Social unrest is coming to Europe”, warns Damien Ernst

Demonstrators burned their electricity and gas bills in Piazza Matteotti in Naples to protest against soaring energy prices. “We cannot pay this sum which has tripled,” they said.

The video of protesters setting fire to their bills has been viewed nearly two million times on Twitter and has been shared en masse, including by Damien Ernst, professor of electromechanics at the University of Liège: “The agitation social impact due to high energy prices is now happening in Europe,” he warned. “Recall that the demonstrations of the yellow vests were triggered in France because of the increase in taxes on gasoline”.

The ULiège professor has been warning about the situation for several months now by intervening in the media and on social networks. “Many households will be surprised by their regularization bill and will no longer know how to pay. An untenable situation. The bill will be completely disproportionate to the consumer’s ability to pay,” he told us last month.
