According to a recent study, there is obviously a vulnerability of the nervous system of some babies which would increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome!
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome would have a vulnerability factor!
unexpected infant death (MIN), which has long been called ” sudden infant death syndrome ”, is defined as being the sudden death without an identified cause, of a baby aged 1 month to 1 year. According to Dr Alain Senikiès, general practitioner, this drama would affect approximately one child in 2000. And most often, the children are aged between 2 and 6 months.
In order to try to reduce the number of cases of unexpected infant deathit is now recommended to, of course, no smoking in infant environment. But also not to overheat the room. And finally, of always lay the baby on his stomach.
From now on, it turns out that these recommendations could be targeted and particularly dispensed to parents of “at risk” babies. Indeed, according to Dr. Hannah Kinney, neurologist at Boston Pediatric Hospital, there is a form of brain vulnerability in some babies. And this would be able to explain the occurrence of a unexpected death.
A test will identify a “failure”.
For his study, the doctor and his team looked at cases of 71 infants died. They thus autopsied them. And were able to analyze brainstem samples. By taking into consideration cause of death, the children were divided into several categories. It was then that they managed to identify brainstem abnormalities. These disrupt the control of breathing, heart rate, blood pressure. But also body temperature during sleep.
And that finally, it is these abnormalities that will prevent the baby from waking up. Especially when its temperature is too high. Or even in case of poor ventilation. The hospital team is therefore now continuing its research with the aim of develop a test that will detect this vulnerability.
