Sorrow and pain: Paris Jackson makes a melancholy debut

Berlin (dpa) – Eleven years after Michael Jackson’s death, daughter Paris is now with her first album at the start. The eleven songs on “Wilted” (in German: “Wilted”) are thoughtful and melancholy. The 22-year-old often accompanies herself with the acoustic guitar.

“Only in the past few years have I started to call myself a musician,” Jackson said a few months ago in a TV interview. You feel like you were born for it. And indeed there are recordings in which, as a child, she says to her father: “I want to do what you do later. Dancing and singing.”

The Californian, who works as an actress and model, is the only daughter of the “King of Pop” who died in 2009. After separating from his second wife, Debbie Rowe, she grew up at Neverland Ranch. At her father’s funeral, the then eleven-year-old touched with her speech: “Daddy was the best father you could imagine. I just want to say that I love him so much. “

In her teenage years, Paris Jackson suffered from depression, which she dealt with in the ballad “Geronimo”. The environmental activist kept singing songs on her social platforms, and in the summer she released a few songs with her boyfriend at the time, Gabriel Glenn. The 22-year-old now wants to finally start her music career with her solo album and the first single “Let Down”. Her big brother, Prince Michael Jackson Jr., also encouraged her to do so.

Songs like “Eyelids,” “Repair” and “Cosmic” are a mixture of indie, pop and folk and mainly revolve around personal breakups, pain or grief. They are reminiscent of the melancholy of a Lana Del Rey.

You have processed a lot of personal information on the album, said Jackson in an interview broadcast on “ET Canada”. She hope her father is happy with it. “And I think he’d be thrilled that I’m happy.”
