A few more than two months before the opening of the transfer market winter in the FC Barcelona have revealed which players are on the priority list. As expected, it’s about Memphis Depay Y Georginio Wijnaldum. This was confirmed by coach Ronald Koeman.
In an interview with the Dutch newspaper ‘AD’, the Barcelona coach confessed that both players were in his plans for 2020-21, but a series of complications, mainly financial, frustrated their signings. The former Everton manager expects a rematch in 2021.
“It is certainly a possibility, yes. I will try, because I want to have him in Barcelona. But I cannot know now what the financial situation of the club is in January. We will have to wait to see it,” Koeman said about the possibility of signing Depay in january.
The Barcelona coach also gave details of the frustrated negotiations between the Catalan club and Depay,
“Everything was ready, but due to the La Liga rules we knew we had to sell a player first. In the end, that didn’t happen. We wanted Memphis because he is a great player and because he has qualities that I think we lack, including the ability to play deep in his game. “
Sobre Georginio Wijnaldum
“Gini has a great sense of space, he can get to the goal fantastically well from midfield, he could really bring something to the team. ” The Barcelona coach said about the Netherlands midfielder, whom he knows from his time as coach of the ‘Orange’.
“The economic situation was known to the club, his position was ultimately less of a priority than, for example, the position of right back or forward,” explained Koeman on why Barcelona did not end up signing the Liverpool player.
