Spain demands from this Wednesday the vaccination certificate or a negative test to all persons over 12 years of age coming from risk areas of France who arrive in the country by land route.

This is how the order published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), which establishes that citizens who cross into Spain must have the certification that the holder has received a vaccine against covid-19 from 14 days after the date of administration of the last dose of the complete vaccination schedule.

The president of the republic expresses his surprise at a “unilateral” decision, while Minister Montero clarifies that it has been a “confusion” and apologizes

This order has been published today in the BOE together with a rectification which deletes the section of a previous bulletin that required a certificate or a test at all land borders, something that yesterday caused confusion with Portugal. Even the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, expressed his surprise at a unilateral decision, and the Government spokesperson, María Jesús Montero, asked “apologize for the confusion” and he assured that no protocol or additional test would be required at the border, as it had been operating until now.

With these two publications, Spain generally annuls the requirements for a vaccination test or certificate at its land borders (which it only has with Portugal and France), and establishes them specifically only for the French border.

The accepted vaccines will be those authorized by the European Medicines Agency or those that have completed the emergency use process of the World Health Organization.

If you are not immunized, Health will require a certificate that indicates the result of a diagnostic test for active covid-19 infection carried out by the holder, whether it is PCR as if it is for antigens.

Both certificates must be written in Spanish, English, French or German and, if it is not possible to obtain it in these languages, the supporting document must be accompanied by a translation into Spanish carried out by an official body.

The order, which comes into force this Wednesday, will take effect until the Government declares the end of the health crisis situation caused by the coronavirus.

Travelers arriving in France from a destination that is not considered risky, including the European Union set, they can enter the country as of this Wednesday without presenting any coronavirus test as long as they prove that they have received any approved vaccine.

For the countries in green, within which figure Spain, France determines that it will only be necessary to submit a negative PCR or antigen test carried out in the previous 72 hours if the traveler does not prove that they have already been vaccinated against covid with any of the vaccines endorsed by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
