Indie Game Spelunky 2 will be released on PS4 on September 15. The game will be released on Steam ‘shortly afterwards’. That reports developer Mossmouth. The game gets several new features, including an online multiplayer mode.
Mossmouth announced the release date during Sony’s State of Play presentation. The game became in 2017 already announced, but developer Mossmouth has since said little about the game. In 2018 the developer reported that the game would be released in 2019, but this was later delayed.
Now the developer reports that the game will be released for the PS4 on September 15. Mossmouth late on Twitter know that the Steam version of Spelunky 2 will be released ‘shortly’ after the PS4 variant. This is because the developer needs extra time to improve the online multiplayer mode on the PC. After the game is out on Steam, Mossmouth is looking into the possibilities of releasing the game on other platforms.
Spelunky is a kind of 2d platforming game that is all about exploring tunnels and caves. The first game was released for the PC in 2008 and has since been re-released for various platforms. Spelunky 2 follows roughly the same formula as its predecessor, but gets several new features. For example, the upcoming game will have an online multiplayer mode, with which players can jointly explore the in-game tunnels. The previous game only supported local co-op.
Players can also build an ‘in-game community’ in Spelunky 2 by discovering new characters. Furthermore, the game gets various new items and other functions. The store system, which was prominent in the first game, is also being revamped.
