Three women’s footballers Rachel Rinast, Meriame Terchoun and Ella Touon dance the «Jiggle Jiggle» dance on Tiktok to heat up the crowd for the Uefa European Women’s Championship which starts this week. Tiktok is official partner of the championship. Under the “Womensfootball” account, the big event is accompanied by clips and the football stars are put in the limelight. The dance of the three Nati players is well received.

Unexpected masterpiece of a father of three

The catchy track to which the soccer players are dancing and which you can no longer avoid on Tiktok is called “Jiggle-Jiggle” rap. This does not come from well-known musicians, but from a British-American documentary filmmaker and father of three named Louis Theroux. “We live in a crazy world,” he says to the New York Times Zeitung. Because this piece of music, which has become a summer hit, is not entirely new: the rhymes come from the year 2000, when Louis Theroux traveled to the southern states of America to meet several rappers there for BBC Two recordings. With the professional support of the rap duo “Reese and Bigalow”, he wrote a few lines that he performed in New Orleans. Thanks to Netflix, the associated film scenes were again made accessible to a large audience in 2016.

In February of this year, a web talk show prompted Louis Theroux to repeat his rap. As a result, this recording was remixed by two DJs, aka “Duke and Jones” from Manchester, UK, and uploaded to Youtube. The video now has almost 15 million clicks. Rap then became a social media sensation thanks to two friends, Jess Qualter and Brooke Blewitt. The two 21-year-olds from Surrey, England, choreographed a dance routine to the track at a pasta night. Dressed in hoodies and sunglasses, they created simple movements that have since been copied by millions of people as a Tiktok dance challenge. The audio has been used in videos seven million times on Tiktok, and the associated challenge hashtag has almost the same number of views. Stars like Snoop Dogg, Shakira, or the cast of Downtown Abbey are now fans of the trend.

Children find rap embarrassing

Filmmaker Louis Theroux, stunned by all the hype surrounding his rap and his persona, tells the New York Times he politely declines concert requests. On the one hand, his one-hit wonder would make for a fairly short show, and on the other hand, he doesn’t want to become famous as a rapper. His children, especially his 14-year-old son, also find it embarrassing that their father is now known on Tiktok. A new studio recording has been produced of the rap, which can be heard on Spotify and other music streaming platforms.
