Storms: 13 departments placed in orange vigilance

Thirteen departments were placed on orange storm vigilance this Sunday, May 22 by Météo France.

New alert. Météo France placed thirteen departments in the southern half of France on orange alert for thunderstorms this Sunday morning.

The departments concerned by this new vigilance are Gironde, Lot-et-Garonne, Charente, Dordogne, Lot, Cantal, Corrèze, Haute-Vienne, Vienne, Creuse, Haute-Loire, Puy-de-Dome and the Loire.

Locally stormy showers approach the Atlantic coasts at the start of the day, but without presenting a violent character, explains Météo-France. But this situation will change. These rains will move east in the morning, and affect a large northern half of the country, without being violent.

On Sunday in the Mediterranean regions, the coastal gloom will give way to a slightly veiled sun. Over the rest of the country, the high altitude veil will be temporarily dense and will make the sky very milky at times.

Temperatures above 30 degrees

Rare showers may occur in the northwest, according to Météo-France forecasts. In the southern half, where temperatures will easily exceed 30 degrees again, the atmosphere will quickly become heavy and stormy showers will eventually break out. here and there. This stormy threat will particularly concern Auvergne and northern Rhône-Alpes in the afternoon. It will then extend to Franche-Comté.

The activity could be temporarily strong, accompanied by a risk of hail and violent gusts. Another stormy salvo, more organized, will also be feared at the end of the day on the southwest.

This degradation will start in Aquitaine and then reach Pays de la Loire, Poitou-Charentes, Limousin and the Center in the evening or early the following night. In these regions too, the situation will be to be monitored with possible hail and strong gales.
