Strasbourg. The ARS warns of cases of meningitis in young people who have frequented festive places

The Grand Est Regional Health Agency announced on Wednesday November 30, 2022 in a press release that several cases of meningitis had been diagnosed in patients living in the urban area of Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin). The patients, young adults, suffer precisely from an invasive meningococcal infection (IMD). Four of the young people in question went to nightlife venues in the city center.

Watch out for symptoms

In his press release relayed by France 3 Great East , the ARS specifically mentions the Live Club establishment. The agency therefore asks for the greatest vigilance from customers of this nightclub and other places concerned. People who have visited them since Friday, November 18, 2022 are called upon to monitor the possible appearance of typical symptoms of meningitis.

Among them, specifies the health authority, are fever, strong headaches, hypersensitivity to light, fatigue, spots on the skin or stiffness in the neck. The bacteria responsible for the pathology are likely to be transmitted by saliva or by air.

Contagion by prolonged contact

Meningococcus can pass from human to human only through close and prolonged contact. The ARS, which has carried out epidemiological investigations, advises to call 15 in the event of the slightest doubt concerning the symptoms, particularly temperature peaks or red or purple skin spots.
