However, the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat) has established certain limits regarding what you can carry in your suitcase.

The Sunat has two lists, one with items or cash that can enter the country in a certain amount without having to declare, and another in which it is mandatory to fill out a luggage affidavit.

-What objects can I bring without declaring? –

The main thing is the traveler’s personal use goods, which includes clothing, ornaments, dressing table, medicines, books, magazines, documents, among others, as long as are for the personal use of the traveler.

As for electronic items, there are certain limitations.

For example, you can only carry an electronic calculator, a radio or audio player, camcorder (not professional), video player, video game console, electronic tablet, computer, and an electric razor or epilator.

In the case of cameras, cell phones and household appliances for hair, can enter two units.

The Sunat also establishes limits with the data carriers or memories. For example, only 20 compact disc drives, two external hard drives, four SD drives, four USB drives, and 10 digital video or video game drives can fit in.

On the other hand, the traveler can carry 20 packs of cigarettes or 50 units of cigars or 250 grams of chopped tobacco (only one of the three options). In the case of alcoholic beverages, the limit is three liters.

Other objects that can enter the country without declaring are a portable musical instrument and a sports article (or a set).

In addition, you can take a single pet (after health control).

Regarding gifts or goods for the traveler’s consumption that, by their nature, are presumed not to be used for commerce; as well as artifacts of the traveler’s profession, they can enter the country if their total value does not exceed US $ 500.

Finally, the The traveler can only carry a maximum of US $ 10,000 (or its equivalent in another currency) in cash or in negotiable financial instruments.

-What goods should I declare? –

First, all the goods or articles that are not considered in the previous list, with a value of up to US $ 1,000, pay 12%.

For higher amounts, they pay the taxes applicable to an import.

The parts or spare parts of vehicles or boats, as well as the property of residents in border areas must be declared.

There are also restricted goods, which require authorization from one or more competent entities, such as agricultural products, medical and dental equipment, wild flora and fauna, weapons and ammunition, cultural heritage, among others.

In addition, there is the prohibited merchandise, that is, objects that cannot enter the national territory and will be seized: used clothing and footwear that are not owned by the traveler, beverages made abroad with the name “pisco”, used auto parts, and more.

In the case of cash or negotiable financial instruments With a value greater than US $ 10,000 and less than US $ 30,000, they must present an affidavit. They cannot enter more than US $ 30,000.

-What is the baggage affidavit? –

Travelers over 18 years of age or heads of family must fill out the sworn baggage declaration in case they intend to enter the country with goods from the previous list.

  • Address in Peru
  • Email
  • Transport company
  • Flight number, ship name and license plate
  • Number of family members who accompany you
