Sunwing has been offering flights to sun destinations from Mont-Joli airport since December 2017 (archives).

The marketing director of the Sungwin travel group, Marie-Josée Carrière said by email that the company has scheduled flights for the 2021-2022 season only from the airports of Quebec, Montreal, and Saguenay-Bagotville.

What’s more, the company mentions that it has currently no flight plans from other airports in the province“. Marie-Josée Carrière specifies, however, that their flight schedule could change depending on consumer demand.

This is a decision that the general manager of Mont-Joli airport, Chantal Duchêne, accepts although she is disappointed for the residents of Bas-Saint-Laurent.

In the current pandemic situation and the fourth wave, and the fact that the conditions for travel are not very clear, the decision of the carrier is very well understood.», She explains.

We see that for international travel, the demand is much less there», Also notes Ms. Duchêne.

However, it specifies that Bas-Laurentiens can still fly internationally from Mont-Joli airport thanks to the company Pal Airline.

Sunwing offers flights to the sun from Mont-Joli airport since winter 2017. The last flight of the 2020 season, at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, was scheduled for April 16, 2020.
