The Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro will be judicially investigated after linking the covid-19 vaccines with the Page. They asked to suspend him from social networks to prevent him from continuing to spread falsehoods.
The Supreme Court of Brazil determined this Friday the opening of a new investigation against the president Jair Bolsonaro, for spreading false news, after he assured in a live broadcast that people who are vaccinated against covid-19 develop page.
The decision was made by the magistrate Alexander de Moraes, in response to a request made by a Senate commission that accused Bolsonaro of “crimes against humanity” and other crimes, for his erratic management in the face of the COVID pandemic.
The controversial statements of the far-right leader took place last October 21 during the live broadcast that the president makes weekly on social networks and that was withdrawn from portals such as Facebook, YouTube and Instagram, for spreading false news, after specialists denied to Bolsonaro.
In the broadcast, the far-right leader cited alleged reports from the British Government, according to which some people vaccinated against COVID-19 had been diagnosed with AIDS, to justify his stance against immunization.
“Official UK Government reports suggest that those fully vaccinated are developing AIDS 15 days after the second dose. Read that news. I am not going to read it here because I could have problems with my live broadcast, ”the Brazilian president said at the time.
Investigate organization that spreads fake news
In this Friday’s decision, Magistrate De Moraes argued the need to investigate the relationship between the false news released by the far-right leader and the actions of an alleged criminal organization that has already been investigated by the Supreme Court for spreading hoaxes and attacks against the democracy on the internet.
In the process that continues against that organization, allies of Bolsonaro are linked and the same president is being investigated to “determine if, illegally, he contributed to the dissemination of fraudulent news about the conduct of members of the Supreme Court and against the voting system of Brazil”.
“There is no doubt that the behaviors denounced by the President of the Republic, in the sense of spreading fraudulent news about vaccination against covid-19, use the modus operandi of mass dissemination schemes on social networks, making it essential to adopt measures that clarify the facts investigated, especially in light of the existence of a criminal organization, “said the judge.
Bolsonaro’s statements led the Senate commission that investigated him and accused him of his efforts in the fight against covid to request that the president be suspended from social networks to prevent him from continuing to disclose falsehoods.
