After RocketWerkz and chief developer Dean Hall had already presented a beta weekend for testing ICARUS to pre-orderers every two weeks in the past few months, the new survival title is now in keeping with the wilderness hype about “7 vs. Wild“Available on Steam for 24.99 euros (until December 7, 2021 for 22.49 euros). In the late evening, the alien planet that gives the game its name opened its gates and invites you to go on adventures in stormy forests, crushingly cold ice deserts and numerous other biomes.
ICARUS tells the story of mankind who drove the earth into the abyss and is consequently on the desperate search for a replacement. That replacement is supposed to be the planet Icarus. In addition to the almost idyllic forests and animals of the earth, Icarus offers one thing above all: A mysterious, exotic material that greedy people try to get in order to earn a golden nose by selling it.
In that attempt, the volunteers, driven by the said greed for wealth, defied all dangers. The said role of volunteers, called Prospectors in the game, is played by the players. You can find more information about ICARUS and the game principle behind it here.
Twitch and Steam indicate successful release
Just a few hours after the release, tens of thousands of players were playing ICARUS at the same time via Steam, which ultimately also caused enthusiasm at Dean Hall. What started with 25,000 active players at the same time increased in the course of the night to over 40,000 players and over 76,000 viewers on Twitch.
These are definitely not bad numbers for the first 24 hours and arouse anticipation for what’s to come. ICARUS currently has more viewers than big titles like Forza Horizon 5, Rainbow Six Siege, Destiny 2, Rocket League, Battlefield 2042, Call of Duty: Vanguard, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl and at times even as Halo Infinite.
But not only on Twitch, but also on Steam, some big titles are currently lagging behind in terms of the players who are active at the same time. We have already read some of them under the titles that have fewer viewers than ICARUS on Twitch today, December 4, 2021. Again to be mentioned here are Battlefield 2042, Rocket League, Forza Horizon 5. It should be noted, however, that ICARUS is only available on Steam, while the majority of Battlefield players via Origin, Rocket League players via the Epic Games Store and the Forza Horizon player can play via the Xbox app or the Microsoft Store and accordingly leave out the Steam numbers for the in-house launcher. Of course, those who play via the consoles are not included in this statistic either.
Nevertheless, we are curious to see how great the success of ICARUS will be in the future.
