Disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein is battling illness behind bars. The 68-year-old former Hollywood mogul has been placed in solitary confinement at Wende Prison in New York City, with a temperature exceeding 38.3 degrees and symptoms related to Covid-19, according to TMZ.

He was reportedly tested for the new coronavirus on Tuesday morning and doctors are awaiting the results. He will be transferred to the prison hospital if the test is positive. A representative for Harvey Weinstein said he was out of shape and is “closely watched” in prison. The former boss of Miramax has a fever, but for those around him it is impossible to “confirm or deny” that he has tested positive. He would still present “various very serious symptoms”

Awaiting extradition to Los Angeles

In a statement relayed by TMZ, representatives of the producer said, “It should come as no surprise that Mr. Weinstein suffers from many diseases and conditions, including heart problems and suffering from hypertension and spinal stenosis. We are working with the NYSDOCCS (New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision) and the excellent team at Wende Prison to make sure Mr. Weinstein receives the proper medical care he needs ”. “Given his general health, his age and his current illness, he is at extreme risk,” say those relatives.

Sources had said that Harvey Weinstein contracted Covid-19 last March, but the virus was never officially diagnosed. The ex-boss of Miramax is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence after a jury found him guilty of sexual assault and rape. In addition to his sentence, the producer is currently awaiting extradition to Los Angeles where he is to be tried on similar charges.
