On July 21, 1822, the city of Vevey was the scene of heartbreaking farewells. At the controls of bench or horse-drawn chariots, laden with their furniture and food for several months, a small troop of Vaudois is preparing for the big departure. The 27 travellers, winegrowers for the most part, know very well that they will never see their country again.
