Kabul: The Taliban government has allowed girls in Afghanistan to study up to the sixth grade. The Taliban’s Ministry of Education has sent a letter instructing officials to open schools and educational centers for girls below sixth grade.

Earlier, there was a big protest in Afghanistan against the Taliban’s policy of denying girls admission to universities. A new move has come weeks after this move. from the international community, including Muslim-majority countries

Muslim countries including Turkey, Qatar and Pakistan also came forward against the university ban. Qatar has called on the “Afghan caretaker government” to review the ban in line with Islam’s teachings on female education.

He had promised a more moderate administration on rights for women and minorities when he came to power in 2021. But later, the Taliban strictly enforced Islamic law.

Girls were barred from middle school and high school. Women were also restricted from most jobs. Head-to-toe clothing was also ordered in public places. Women were banned from parks and gyms and prevented from traveling without a male relative. Finance Minister Khwari Din Mohammad Hanif recently issued an order banning women from working in foreign non-governmental organizations and offices. After that, the government canceled the operating license of three voluntary organizations.

The United Nations organization had come forward demanding the withdrawal of the Afghan government’s decision. These moves against women were described as a shameful decision by human rights organizations. They also accused the Taliban of usurping the fundamental rights of Afghans.

Financial aid from foreign countries is the main factor that sustains Afghanistan’s economy. With the government’s new stance, many countries had stopped their aid.
