Taliban violate promise: Order to suspend TV shows featuring women

Kabul: The Taliban has once again taken an anti-women stance. The Taliban have banned the broadcasting of TV shows, serials and art shows featuring women. The Taliban made this clear in a religious directive issued yesterday.

The order also requires women journalists to wear the hijab when reading the news and reporting. The Taliban has said in a statement that it will not broadcast programs that show the Prophet Muhammad or other holy leaders. The Taliban has also demanded that non-Islamic programs not be aired.

The Taliban had earlier ordered what women should wear to universities. Despite the promise of media freedom, there were reports of Taliban persecution and harassment of several Afghan journalists. Through such moves, the Taliban are constantly proving that the promise of moderate rule in Afghanistan is empty.
