Mumbai: Former India captain Virat Kohli will play a pivotal role in the India Twenty20 team, says captain Rohit Sharma. Meanwhile, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has hinted that VVS Laxman will be the next Indian coach. The response from both was in an interview

Rohit Sharma’s reaction comes against the backdrop of criticism leveled against Virat Kohli for highlighting his recent strike rate in the T20s. The new captain said that the Indian team needs Kohli’s batting excellence and leadership qualities. Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly has hinted that VVS Laxman may succeed Rahul Dravid as India’s coach.

Virat Kohli vacated the Indian T20 captaincy with the T20 World Cup in the UAE. With this, Rohit Sharma became the full time T20 captain. The Indian coaching staff also resigned with the World Cup. Legendary batsman Rahul Dravid has replaced Ravi Shastri. The Rohit-Rahul duo swept the T20 series 3-0 against New Zealand to usher in a new era in Indian cricket.

After successfully coaching the India A and Under-19 teams, Dravid was appointed President of the BCCI National Cricket Academy (NCA) in 2019. The appointment was for two years. The contract was later renewed by the BCCI for another two years. At first, he refused, but at the urging of BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly, he took over as coach of the Indian senior team. During his tenure as NCA president, Dravid coached the Indian team on the tour of Sri Lanka.
