Ian, 13, was playing in the fabulous setting of Coral Pink Dunes Park when he became trapped by a collapsing dune.
Park officials said he was digging a tunnel when the accident happened, as a parent watched.
Visitors, guards and family managed to get him out of his sand prison after 23 minutes.
The young boy unfortunately did not survive his injuries and died in hospital.
