No doubt Stan Wawrinka, his 37 years and his comeback on the circuit see their ranking very differently from Lulu Sun, just crowned with his first victory in a WTA tournament at 21 years old. However, Monday morning, both had to savor the update of the world ranking like a sweet candy.
Semi-finalist in Metz, last week, where he finally had to throw in the towel because of a painful thigh, the Vaudois went there to pick up 102 ATP points. The fruit of five victories. Or more than a third of a total which allows him to climb from 284th to 193rd place. Falling to 361st in May, the three-time Grand Slam winner had not been so well ranked since February, a period during which he was still out of the circuit. Lulu Sun did almost as well as the 91 places gained by her compatriot. The Genevan woke up in the shoes of the 255th player in the world: the best ranking of her young career. There is a logical sequence behind this leap of 85 ranks. Quarter-finalist in Seoul, she won her first two successes in the main draw of a WTA tournament. All after climbing the qualifications.
The WTA is still dominated by the Polish Iga Swiatek, who has precisely double the points of her runner-up Ons Jabeur. At the ATP, the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz continues to enjoy his start to his reign.
