A Tesla on autopilot drove straight into a police car in the United States. Apparently the car was irritated by the blue light. The case is not the first of its kind.
In the US state of Florida, a Tesla switched to autopilot drove into a police patrol car, reports the local US medium “Florida Politics”. Accordingly, the Tesla drove into the parked car on a police patrol on a highway near Orlando on Saturday.
The police officer parked on the hard shoulder to help the driver of a broken-down vehicle and was only just missed by the Tesla when it drove straight into the car. The car then hit the broken-down vehicle. The 27-year-old Tesla driver and the driver of the other car suffered minor injuries, reports Florida Politics.
First assumptions, the accident is one of a number of other collisions between Tesla vehicles on autopilot and emergency vehicles. As “Florida Politics” reports, since 2018 there have been a total of eleven accidents between computer-controlled Tesla cars and emergency vehicles with blue lights switched on or illuminated lettering.
A total of 17 people were injured and one was killed. The National Administration for Road Safety has therefore initiated an investigation against the Tesla system.
