Thai Airways cancels flights to and from Taipei on August 4

On August 4, 2022, Thai Airways canceled flights to and from Taipei after China launched exercises in six regions of Taiwan over its antipathy to the United States.

Thai Airways said it will monitor the situation daily before deciding whether to cancel more flights.

China’s state broadcaster CCTV announced that the live-fire training will begin on Thursday, August 4 and end on Sunday, August 7 at 4:00 am GMT. An unprecedented military drill was held in protest of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s arrival in Taiwan.

Thai Airways also said it would divert all flights that normally fly through Taiwan’s airspace. It could fly over the Philippines or, with permission, fly through Chinese airspace.
