The 24th General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) that Marrakech will host in 2021 will be “historic”, assured its Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili on Wednesday in Tbilisi.
“The next UNWTO General Assembly will be historic. We will do our best to make it one of the most successful post-pandemic events, ”he said on the sidelines of the 112th session of the Executive Council of this United Nations specialized agency.
In this context, he specified that the meeting in Marrakech will be an opportunity to discuss the future of the tourism sector hard hit by the health crisis, inviting all the member states of the organization as well as the private sector to respond to it. .
The UNWTO Secretary General also underlined that Morocco is “an excellent destination” to promote and “a model” in the tourism sector, highlighting the Kingdom’s great experience in the field, as well as its infrastructure.
As a reminder, Morocco was designated as the host country of the 24th UNWTO General Assembly during the previous meeting held last September in Saint Petersburg, Russia, by obtaining 76 votes out of 107 votes, against 15 for the Philippines and 13 for Kenya.
