The Wallonia Picardy emergency services were alerted shortly after 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday that a serious traffic accident had occurred along the chaussée de la Clinckererie in Antoing. An extrication vehicle, a marking truck and a command vehicle were dispatched to the scene. When first aid arrived, the driver of the car was already dead.
The accident occurred along the road, in the Antoing-Fontenoy direction, shortly before the expressway bridge linking Gaurain (Tournai) and Bruyelle (Antoing). According to a witness, the BMW car driven by the victim deviated from its trajectory, then crashed to the right on one of the pilasters of the bridge. The force of the impact threw the vehicle onto the road. The car, an ancestor, came to rest on its side.
