Andante Fortnight, cycle of the San Sebastián Musical Fortnight, will offer several appointments for the next few days, both in Gipuzkoa and Álava, in which fusion proposals and various commemorations linked to Juan Sebastián Elkano and Xabier Lete.
This Sunday he will stop in the Alava town of Agurain to offer a fusion proposal that combines organ with multi-ethnic instruments, by the hand of Argentine musician Pablo Mezzelani (multi-ethnic instruments), Pedro Aguinaga (violin) and Loreto Aramendi (organ). It is an eclectic program that also bears the title of ‘Vientos y Piedras’.
In it, in addition to music by Buxtehude, Nebra, Jiménez, Distler and Martín i Coll, you will be able to hear melodies from Armenia, Bolivia and Afghanistan, performed with different multi-ethnic instruments. The appointment, free, will be at 7.30 pm in the Church of Santa María.
Two days later, Getaria will host the commemorative concert ‘Horos’ on the occasion of the 500 years of the first circumnavigation of the Earth by Juan Sebastián Elkano. At the head of the project are Ander Telleria and his «mesotonic» accordion.
Accompanied by the Tetraphilla Ensemble vocal quartet and the flutist Anna Margules, Telleria will intersperse contemporary works with pieces from the Renaissance, by authors such as Antonio de Cabezón, Francisco Guerrero or Juan de Anchieta. The appointment will be next Tuesday at the Church of San Salvador in the town of Gipuzkoa.
The Andante Fortnight will make its next stop on Wednesday in Oyón, with a combined proposal of vocal performance and organ sound. The mezzo-soprano from Donostia Lucía Gómez and Alize Mendizabal, titular organist of the Basilica of Santa María del Coro de San Sebastián, have previously performed together in the Organ Cycle of this edition.
On this occasion they have developed a program that “will allow us to appreciate the sound of the Central European Baroque repertoire in the youngest organ in the Alava territory.” Works for organ solo by Bach, Buxtehude and Händel will be available, along with some arias by Vivaldi, Händel and Purcell. The concert will be free and will take place in the Church of Santa María de Oyón.
The itinerary of this cycle will end on August 26 in Urnieta (Gipuzkoa). With the tickets already sold out, the concert will become a “warm and emotional tribute” to Xabier Lete (1944-2010) on the tenth anniversary of his death. In ‘Hor zaude nonbait’, Antton Valverde offers a selection of songs in which he has set the lyrics and poems of “his eternal friend” to music.
The show will also be attended by the Hernaniarra accordionist Joxan Goikoetxea and the voice of the soprano Klara Mendizabal and the violin of Francisco Herrero “will contribute a special coloratura to this intimate proposal” at the Sarobe Performing Arts Center.
