The Barcelona Olympic Games, a historical milestone that put the nationalists in a state of war



The Barcelona Games began on July 25, 1992 with a crush on the cauldron that lit the Olympic flame in a spectacular way, a love at first sight between Spain and the world that would end two weeks later with the mythical ‘Friends forever’ which sealed “the best games in history” in three languages. Catalonia appeared to the world as an open, mestizo, plural place, while Spain, in general, did so as a modern country prepared for whatever. Everyone was euphoric, including the IOC, all except for the nationalists, who did not like institutional cooperation and the variety of accents.
