The 38th and 39th ASEAN Summits from 26-28 October have begun. The absence of military leaders from the coup in the country like Myanmar attended the meeting and this was the conclusion of Brunei Darussalam’s ASEAN chairmanship. Under the main concept “We care, We prepare, We prosper”, which is considered a challenging year. especially the situation in Myanmar

Earlier, after the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Emergency Meeting ended on October 15, Brunei, chairman of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), issued a statement. It will not invite the military leader who led the coup in Myanmar (Senior General Min Aung Lai) to the summit. For reasons that are well understood The Myanmar military government has failed to comply with five ASEAN-accepted issues in resolving the situation in Myanmar, namely:

1) Ending violence and calling for all sides to exercise restraint 2) Constructive dialogue between all parties involved for the benefit of the people of Myanmar 3) The Special Envoy of the Chair of ASEAN (Brunei) will facilitating the consultation process with the support of the ASEAN Secretariat; 4) ASEAN will provide humanitarian assistance through the AHA Center or the ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Management; travel to myanmar to meet with various parties involved

The five important issues that ASEAN hopes will be a guideline to resolve the situation in Myanmar. The Chair of ASEAN (Brunei) issued a statement after the ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting ended on April 24, 2021 in Jakarta, or from that date to this day for almost half a year in Myanmar. did not respond to the demands of ASEAN in any way

Thailand as a relatively “Closer” with the Myanmar military government have rested with treatment “distance” and “Don’t leave” In the case of Myanmar, with the demands of other ASEAN members, it can be seen that when Brunei, as the chairman of ASEAN, issued a statement on five items of “chairman” On the 24th of April that past The Thai side suggested ASEAN to consider forming a group called “Friends of the Chair” based on D4D principles, or 1) ending violence in Myanmar, 2) delivering humanitarian aid, 3) releasing detainees. 4) Dialogue (dialogue)

and concluded that the proposal to achieve development goals (development) sustainable in Myanmar and for the benefit of the people of Myanmar

which looks “hard” less than the 5 statements of the ASEAN Chair In particular, the special envoy will take on a precarious mission to intervene in the Myanmar government.

Although the Myanmar military government spokesman came out with “outrage” to express dissatisfaction with ASEAN for not inviting Senior General Min Aung Lai to attend this ASEAN Summit. that it violates the consensus principle and the principle of not interfering in each other’s internal affairs But the Myanmar military government has taken steps to ease the pressure on ASEAN. By declaring more “acceptance” to the 5 proposals of ASEAN with news that hundreds of political prisoners will be released to cooperate with ASEAN as much as possible

But all are still just “declarations” that have no concrete practical effect. to fulfill ASEAN’s 5 Peace Plan in any way.
